Notice what changed
A system that once bridged an outage but now shuts down early needs assessment. However, compare like-for-like conditions: more connected equipment or a shorter recharge window can reduce runtime without a sudden battery defect.
Record battery alarms, operating temperatures and changes in the outage pattern. Visible swelling, leakage, unusual heat or odour requires prompt attention under the site's safety procedures. Do not touch, open or continue experimenting with damaged batteries.
Use the right evidence
Service teams may use condition checks, electrical measurements and controlled tests appropriate to the chemistry and installation. A single voltage reading or an apparently healthy dashboard does not establish the capacity available under load.
Runtime or load testing must be planned with an approved continuity arrangement. Avoid a casual mains-disconnection test on business-critical equipment: it can expose both the load and personnel to unnecessary risk.
Replace a system, not a random component
The replacement must match the UPS DC arrangement, charger and manufacturer's instructions. Mixing battery types, capacities, ages or condition within a string can create uneven performance and may be prohibited by the approved design.
A move from lead-acid to lithium-ion is a separate compatibility exercise. Confirm protection, current limits, communications and warranty conditions rather than treating chemistry as a cosmetic swap.
Prevent the same failure from returning
Investigate temperature, ventilation, frequent deep discharge, charging behaviour and load growth. Replacing a bank without addressing those conditions can shorten the life of the next installation.
Powermode can assess replacement options and monitoring or Batteries4Life support. Keep the commissioning date, configuration and test baseline with the asset record, and plan responsible handling and end-of-life disposal through the service scope.
Planning guidance, not an installation specification. Final sizing, compatibility and safe work procedures require a site-specific assessment and the relevant manufacturer's instructions.
