Define what the runtime must accomplish
A short bridge to generator start-up is different from maintaining a business process for several hours. Establish the recovery action and the time required, including shutdown sequencing if that is part of the plan.
Select the critical circuit carefully. Non-essential loads can consume reserve intended for servers, network infrastructure or controls. Document any loads that are shed as an outage continues.
Use an estimate with explicit assumptions
If a design could deliver 8kWh of usable AC energy to a steady 2kW load, the simplified calculation gives four hours. This is an illustrative energy balance, not a promised runtime for an 8kWh or 10kWh battery label.
Battery discharge behaviour, UPS self-consumption, conversion efficiency and output limits can change the result. Lead-acid capacity in particular depends on discharge rate. Use manufacturer runtime curves or engineering calculations for the actual configuration.
Design for the battery's operating life
A runtime figure for a new, fully charged battery under favourable conditions may not meet the requirement later. Agree the reserve, end-of-life capacity assumptions and acceptable environment before approval.
Check whether the battery can deliver the required power as well as enough energy. A large nominal kWh value does not remove the battery's current limits, BMS protection or the UPS's kW and kVA limits.
Recharge determines readiness for the next outage
Frequent interruptions can arrive before the battery has recovered. Charger output, the power needed by the running load, input supply limits and battery charge acceptance determine recovery time.
Powermode can assess long-run lithium-ion UPS arrangements and generator integration using the real operating pattern. Ask for the stated load, runtime assumptions and recharge requirements to appear together in the proposed design.
Planning guidance, not an installation specification. Final sizing, compatibility and safe work procedures require a site-specific assessment and the relevant manufacturer's instructions.
